Five key parameters of F-D curves

A standard dome force-deflection curve shows a typical "peak-valley" shape defined by five characteristic parameters: FP (force peak), RP (rebound force), BD (bounce distance/travel), CL (click life ratio) and F1/F2 ratio. These five parameters together determine tactile quality and service life.

FP (Actuation Force): max operating force needed, typically 80-300gf
RP (Rebounce Force): residual feedback after actuation, typically 15-40% of FP
BD (Travel): distance from actuation point to bottom, 0.05-0.30mm
F1/F2 Ratio: tactile clarity metric, ideal range 0.4-0.6
CL Ratio: life prediction reference, higher = more durable

Curve selection for different applications

Tactile requirements vary significantly by application. Consumer products pursue light crisp feel, industrial equipment needs clear reliable feedback signals, medical devices focus on consistency over absolute force values, and automotive electronics must consider false-trigger protection under vibration. Prioritize matching FP-RP combination characteristics when selecting.

Phone/Remote: FP 100-160gf, high F1/F2 ratio, short BD
Industrial panel: FP 160-260gf, medium RP, vibration-resistant
Automotive key: FP ≥200gf, low RP, anti-false-trigger
Medical device: FP consistency ±10%, long life >500K cycles

Test methods and equipment

DOME F-D curves are measured using a push-pull gauge with displacement sensor at sampling frequency ≥100Hz. Test conditions should simulate actual assembly including PCB stiffness, aperture size and bonding method. Batch consistency monitoring recommends SPC control charts for FP and RP Cpk values, target Cpk ≥1.33.
