Engineering insight

Use the following as an early selection reference. Specific models, datasheets and samples should be confirmed with actual structure drawings.

01

Start with available structure space

Tact-switch size is usually decided by PCB layout, housing height, keycap travel and assembly method. Selecting by model similarity alone can lead to offset pressing, insufficient travel or pad mismatch before mass production.

Confirm PCB length, width, height limit and nearby keep-out area.
Check whether the keycap or housing actuator presses at the center.
Confirm pads, positioning features and SMT placement direction.

02

Choosing SMT, DIP and side-actuated structures

SMT fits dense board assembly, DIP is often used when stronger mechanical fixing is needed, and side-actuated switches fit side-operation or low-height products. Soldering method, force direction and serviceability should be considered together.

03

Items to verify at sample stage

At sample stage, verify tactile feel, rebound stability, post-soldering height, housing interference and life requirement together to reduce later tooling or PCB adjustment cost.
